Howard Engel

Howard Engel was born 2 April 1931. He graduated from McMaster University in 1955 with a B.A. in Humanities and five years later began working as a reporter for the CBC. He married Marian Passmore in 1962 and in 1967, became executive producer for Sunday Supplement, The Arts in Review, and Anthology. Engel is also a founder of Crime Writers of Canada.

In 2001, Engel suffered a stroke while he slept which left him unable to read but still able to write (alexia without agraphia). In 2005, with persistance and help, he published the eleventh book in his Benny Cooperman series.
