Anne Giardini was born in 1959 in Toronto, Ontario and is the daughter of Carol Shields. She studied economics at Simon Fraser University and attended law school at the University of British Columbia. Giardini received an LL.B. in 1984, an LL.M. in 1988 from the University of Cambridge, and was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1986 and in Ontario in 1990. A former columnist for the National Post, Giardini lives in Vancouver.
