Allen Roy Evans was born in 1885 in Napanee, Ontario and grew up in Manitoba. He earned a B.A. from the University of Manitoba and an M.A. from the University of Chicago. Evans also studied at Columbia University before teaching English in high schools in British Columbia. In the late 1930s, Evans formed a marketing and advisory board for writers. He died in 1965.
