Hubert Evans was born in 1892 in Vankleek Hill, Ontario and grew up in Galt. He worked as a journalist in Toronto before joining the army in 1915. After the war, Evans moved to Roberts Creek, British Columbia where he worked as a fisheries officer, logger, fisherman, and freelance writer. In addition to his books, Evans wrote several radio plays. He died in 1986.
