Rivka Galchen was born in 1976 in Toronto and moved with her family to Oklahoma in 1982. She earned a B.A. from Princeton University, an M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2003, focusing on psychiatry, and an M.F.A. from Columbia University in 2006. Galchen lives in New York City.
