Hugh MacLennan
Hugh MacLennan was born 20 March 1907 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. In 1928, he received a B.A. Honours in Greek and Latin from Dalhousie University and a Rhodes Scholarship. He graduated from Oxford with a B.A. Third Class in Literae Humaniores in 1932 and completed his Ph.D. at Princeton in 1935. In 1954, MacLennan began teaching English part-time at McGill University, becoming a full professor in 1968. He retired in 1979 and died 7 November 1990 at his home in Montreal, Quebec.
