Gabrielle Roy
Gabrielle Roy was born on 22 March 1909 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. She graduated from the Winnipeg Normal Institute in 1929, taught school for several years, then moved to Europe for two years, returning to Canada in 1939. Roy worked as a freelance reporter in Montreal for the next six years. She married in 1947, spent three years in Europe, then moved to Quebec City in 1952. Roy died of heart failure on 13 July 1983.
