David Walker

David H. Walker was born on 9 February 1911 near Dundee, Scotland. He graduated from the Royal Military College at Sandhurst in 1931, then served with The Black Watch in India, the Sudan, and Canada. During WWII, Walker was captured by the Germans and spent nearly five years as a prisoner before being freed in 1945. He emigrated to Canada in 1948, settling in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. In addition to his 20 books, Walker published about 100 short stories and was an active member of the community. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1987 and died at St. Andrews on 5 March 1992. In 1997, his family established the David H. Walker Prize in Creative Writing at the University of New Brunswick.
