Ethel Wilson
Ethel Wilson (née Bryant) was born on 20 January 1888 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Her mother died the following year and her father took her to England. When he died in 1898, she was sent to Vancouver to live with relatives. She graduated from the Vancouver Normal School in 1907 and taught in elementary schools until her marriage to a local doctor in 1921. Wilson died on 22 December 1980 in Vancouver.
In 1985, the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize was created to honour authors from British Columbia and the Yukon.
