W.P. Kinsella

William Patrick Kinsella was born on 25 May 1935 in Edmonton and grew up near Darwell, Alberta. Home-schooled until the age of 10, he received a B.A. in creative writing from the University of Victoria in 1974 and an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa in 1978. He taught creative writing at the University of Alberta from 1978 to 1983 before becoming a full-time writer. On 11 October 1997, while out walking, Kinsella suffered a head injury when he was struck by a vehicle. The resulting loss of concentration has left him unable to write. Kinsella lives in British Columbia.
