K.I. (Karen) Press was born in Peace River, Alberta and moved to Edmonton with her family when she was a teenager. She studied at the University of Alberta, received an M.A. in English literature from the University of Ottawa, and attended the Master of Publishing program at Simon Fraser University. Press lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
