Alan Cumyn was born in 1960 in Ottawa, Ontario. He earned a B.A. in English and history from Queen's University and an M.A. in creative writing and English literature from the University of Windsor in 1984. Cumyn lives in Ottawa with his wife, author Suzanne Evans.
