Grant McCrea was born in Val d'Or, Quebec. He graduated from McGill University with a B.A. in 1982, an LL.B. in 1985, and an M.A. in 1986. He also earned an LL.L. from the University of Ottawa in 1988. McCrea is a litigation lawyer and lives in New York City.
