Steven Heighton was born on 14 August 1961 in Toronto and grew up there and in Northern Ontario. He earned a B.A. in 1985 and an M.A. in 1986 from Queen's University, and has worked as a translator, teacher, and magazine editor. Heighton lives in Kingston, Ontario.
