Carol Shields

Carol Shields (nee Warner) was born 2 June 1935 in Oak Park, Illinois and moved to Canada in 1957. She received a B.A. from Hanover College and an M.A. from the University of Ottawa. Shields taught at several universities before becoming Chancellor of the University of Winnipeg in 1996. In 2000, she moved to Victoria, British Columbia where she died of breast cancer on 16 July 2003. Her daughter, Anne Giardini, is also a writer.
