Eric Walters was born on 3 March 1957 in Toronto, Ontario. He earned a B.A. (Honours) in psychology from York University in 1979, then went to work as a social worker. In 1983, Walters earned his Bachelor of Social Work, followed by a Masters degree in 1985, and a Bachelor of Education in 1989, all from the University of Toronto. He taught elementary school until 2003 and continues to work part-time as a social worker at a local hospital. Walters lives in Mississauga.
