Alice Munro


Alice Munro (nee Laidlaw) was born on 10 July 1931 in Wingham, Ontario. She attended the University of Western Ontario on a two-year scholarship before marrying and moving to British Columbia where she and her husband opened a bookstore. Munro's first story was published in 1950 and her first collection of short stories was published eighteen years later. In 1972, she divorced and returned to Ontario. In addition to her short story collections, Munro has published one novel.
